MY STORY

I am Dr. Isabella Nyambayo, and I have a BSc in Applied Biology and Biochemistry, MSc in Human Nutrition, and a Ph.D. in Science (Analytical Biochemistry). I have a passion for research and teaching in higher education. During my sandwich undergraduate degree, I researched packaging material and their application in industry to extend the shelf-life of food.  I continued to develop my passion for research in the food industry. Hence, my Ph.D. research was focused on cross-linking mucilage used to immobilise polygalacturonase enzyme extracted from tomatoes. Enzyme biotechnology plays an important role in food processing of food and drinks.

My understanding of food could not be complete without studying an MSc in Human Nutrition and Metabolism. This included understanding of mechanisms of nutrient-nutrient and nutrient-gene interactions, sensory perception of food and rheology, nutrition and health.  However, I have food industry (Unilever) and HE research and academic training (UK and abroad) experience.

I am a member of the Institute of Food Science and Technology (MIFST) and Royal Society of Chemistry(MRSocChem), and Nutrition Society. However, I am on the UK voluntary register for nutritionist for Association of Nutrition(RegNutri- Nutrition Science). I am also a senior fellow of Higher Education Academy.

WHY I WANT TO HELP PEOPLE

I got my inspiration to study and research from other food scientists and I would like to provide a platform where other people can be able to share their stories to inspire the next generation.  The food industry generates a lot of job opportunities ranging from agriculture (farming, livestock, micro livestock), nutrition, processing, engineering, manufacturing, packaging, analytical techniques, sensory science/ consumer science,  sustainability, reduction of food waste, food safety, quality control and assurance, legislations and regulations, supply chain and logistics. Food is very important throughout the lifespan, therefore understanding good food and drink manufacturing practices is vital for health and wellbeing.

I would like the young scientist to understand possible career paths after studying science subjects. However, some of the information will be for graduates in the food-related discipline looking for a job. Videos will be shared aiming at educating the young generation about the benefits of developing a career in the food industry.  Courses for small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and CPDs will be delivered as to learn about expanding  short courses.

THE GOAL OF MY SITE

The main purpose of the site is to provide information on food-related disciples including  as well as training. Both visitors and members on the site will be able to interact with each other through our community platform.

If you have any questions leave a comment below and I will respond within 3 days.

All the best,
